The School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences (SCMB) combines the disciplines of Chemistry, Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, Microbiology and Parasitology into a single academic unit. The School has modern research laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment and research infrastructure. The School includes over 50 academic staff, who are widely published internationally and have extensive research backgrounds.
The successful appointee will undertake research aiming to understand resistance to hypochlorite stress in the human pathogen Haemophilus influenzae. This will include but not be limited to studying enzymes involved in the process, interactions of bacteria with different types of host cells and properties of H. influenzae mutant strains. Experience with animal models of infection or demonstrated expertise in protein biochemistry will be advantageous.
Applicants must hold a PhD or be close to completion of a PhD in the area of Microbiology, Biochemistry or Molecular Biology, as well as demonstrated expert knowledge in these areas. Applicants must have demonstrated experience in handling and genetic manipulation of pathogenic bacteria and research involving host interaction models. Candidates should be well organised with demonstrated attention to detail with regard to undertaking and reporting on research. Candidates require the ability to establish effective relationships and to work collaboratively within a small team.

This is a full-time, fixed term appointment for 12 months (with the possibility of extensions up to 36 months in total) at Research Academic level A. The remuneration package will be in the range $67,542 - $90,982 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $79,024 - $106,448 p.a.).
