The Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Liverpool John Moores University is seeking to appoint a Project Manager in a software development project that develops a new customer information screen system for the rail industry.

This project, funded by the InnovateUK, converts the technologies already developed by LJMU into a new kind of customer information display that can provide rail passengers with richer information than before. The software system includes a web-based user interface to be displayed on station screens, a cloud-based server to host the web, and a core data component that gathers/processes real-time data from different sources, as well as makes estimations on train time, train position etc. The system will be trial in a station near the end of the project.

You will work alongside a software development team to oversee the day-to-day technical delivery of the project in accordance with the project plan and outcomes (build, test, deploy, and exploitation). The PM is expected to communicate with project partners and stakeholders to ensure that the results from LJMU can be integrated smoothly into the specified station during the trial. You will also manage and contribute to the exploitation plan to maximise the exploitation potential of the product. Finally, all progress and deliverables will have to be effectively communicated with the funder (including preparing quarterly reports and organising quarterly meetings).

You will not need to have any specific programming skills, but will need to have experience in general project management, ideally, but not essentially, in previous software development environments. You will not need to have any specific programming skills but should have management experience in one of the following: InnovateUK project, a software development project using agile process, or a technical project with a very short and fixed deadline.

Informal enquiries may be made to Dr Trung Thanh Nguyen, email: T.T.Nguyen@ljmu.ac.uk

LJMU values diversity and provides a supportive and inclusive environment where everyone can fulfil their potential.

Please note all of our vacancies will be closed to applications at midnight on the advertised closing date, unless otherwise stated.
