Are you a technician looking for a challenging professional experience to further your career? If so, joining CERN’s TTE programme may very well give you that challenge. This position as an Electromechanical Technician is part of our prestigious TTE programme.
You will integrate a section of 18-20 people, in charge of Low Power Converters (100 Watts to 100 kWatts) powering mainly magnets for all CERN accelerator complexes. You will join a small team of three to four people in charge of delivering new 13 kA 8V power converters required for the upgrade to High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) project.
As an Electromechanical Technician, you will participate in the design, integration, production and test phases of these converters. Your main activities will consist of:
- Designing CAD mechanical parts and assemblies;
- Purchasing, receiving and managing mechanical and electronic components and parts;
- Producing cables for signal and power transmission;
- Creating documentation for the cabling, assembly, production and installation of power converters in series;
- Assembling power converter prototypes modules;
- Preparing and arranging the electrical laboratories to develop, assembly and test power converter prototypes;
- Testing power converters.
In order to qualify for this place on the programme you will need to meet the following requirements:
- You are a national of a CERN Member State or Associate Member State (https://home.cern/about/member-states);
- You have a Technical Diploma in in the field of mechanical, electro-mechanics, electricity, electronics engineering or equivalent (careers.cern/ttediplomas), and no more than 4 years' relevant experience after finishing your diploma;
- If you are currently studying, you are still eligible to apply, although you are expected to have obtained your qualification by the start of your appointment at CERN;
- If you hold a BSc or MSc, you are not eligible. However, you may be eligible for the Fellowship Programme.
- You should have at least a working knowledge of English or French.
Specific skills required for this job:
The following experience would be an advantage
- Initial experience in the following domains: development, installation, testing, operation and/or maintenance of electromechanical equipment;
- Electro-mechanical design: use of CAD tools for 2D & 3D technical drawings;
- Production of technical documentation;
- Cabling of electrical systems;

- An employment contract of one year, renewable for a second year;

As a member of a team with experienced technicians and engineers from many European countries in charge of designing many challenging power converter types, you will find a dynamic environment, where you will acquire or develop your skills in:
- The use of CAD softwares (Inventor, Solidworks or similar).
- The design of mechanical elements like modular structures, electrical busbars, air or water cooling parts, or even complete specific units.
- The domain of electrical systems, dedicated to electrical power conversion.
- The use of standard office software tools, creating tables, presentations and technical reports or notes.
- Self-driving yourself, creating and following some work plans, presenting your work at project meetings.
