UNSW Medicine is a national leader in learning, teaching and research, with close affiliations to a number of Australia’s finest hospitals, research institutes and health care organisations. With a strong presence at UNSW Kensington campus, the faculty have staff and students in teaching hospitals in Sydney as well as regional and rural areas of NSW including Albury/Wodonga, Wagga Wagga, Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie.

The School of Medical Sciences (SoMS) is the largest School within UNSW Medicine, and one of the largest at UNSW. It is based on the Kensington campus.

The Opportunity

  • Full time, 3-Year Convertible Tenure Track Appointment
  • $105,108 - $ 146,465 (plus 17% superannuation and leave loading)

The role will operate within the Department of Pharmacology whose research themes incorporate molecular pharmacology, drug discovery including cancer, neuropharmacology, obesity and metabolic disease. The Department supports research and research training directed towards the understanding and treatment of a range of disorders.

The Lecturer / Senior Lecturer will be responsible for making a significant contribution to excellence in research and research-led teaching within the pharmacological sciences that complements existing strengths and resources within the School and Department. This includes an expectation that the appointee will develop their research program with external research funding. The position will require outstanding communication and education skills, including engagement with UNSW Australia’s contemporary pedagogy and innovation in teaching and learning platforms. Teaching contributions will be within the broad discipline of Pharmacology and to the various undergraduate programs supported by the School, including Medicine, Medical Science, Science and Advanced Science.

You will contribute to the School’s academic reputation by undertaking high quality research, teaching and PhD supervision, and other associated activities that further enhance our global reputation.

About the successful applicant

To be successful in this role you will possess:

  • a PhD qualification in Pharmacology, or a related discipline of biomedical science
  • a record of or strong potential for research and publication in top-tier refereed journals
  • a record of or strong potential for excellent achievement in teaching
