The Office of the Director Gatton Campus (ODGC), is responsible for ensuring the smooth and effective operations of the Gatton Campus of the University of Queensland, supporting academic teaching, research and community programs. The Director’s portfolio includes responsibility for the Gatton Dairy, Piggery, Equine Unit, Cropping Unit, Grazing Animal Unit, Queensland Animal Science Precinct (QASP), G-VEC and the Halls of Residence in addition to administration functions and OH&S.

The primary focus of QASP is as an animal health and production research facility conducting world- class research in the areas of animal growth, adaptation, welfare, health and vaccines. The facility provides state-of-the-art facilities for a number of scientists from the organizations conducting research at the facility.

QASP will attract national and international collaboration between scientists in the developed and developing world. It will also strengthen the interaction between researchers and industry and ensure that research and development leads to rapid practical outcomes.

The role

The successful appointee will facilitate the efficient conduct of a range of large animal research projects in the QASP facilities. This will involve working with the Senior Manager to ensure that the appropriate protocols and procedures are developed and implemented and followed in relation to conduct of research trials, animal handling, occupational health and safety, animal ethics and welfare, biosafety, administration and day-to-day operation of the QASP facilities.

The person

Applicants should possess an undergraduate degree or associate diploma and subsequent relevant work experience. You should also have demonstrated competence in the conduct of animal research trials as well as staffing and planning research trials, experience in the broad range of livestock and large and small animal research, strong staff management and development skills, and knowledge of relevant policies, procedures and health and safety practices.

Remuneration

This is a full-time, fixed term appointment at HEW Level 6. The remuneration package will be in the range $77,400 - $83,267 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $88,869 - $95,605 p.a.).
