Research Data Manager
The Moore Center for the Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse, housed within the Department of Mental Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and the Center for Adolescent Health, housed in the Department of Population, Family, and Reproductive Health, have an opening for a Data Manager. The Moore Center is dedicated to promoting a public health approach to preventing child sexual abuse (CSA), while striving to change our nation’s response to CSA from primary criminal justice, reactive focus, to a more comprehensive approach that focuses significant resources on preventing CSA before harm occurs. Current research projects focus on youth, family, and school CSA prevention; policy evaluation; CSA cost, causes, and consequences; and communication research strategies. The Center for Adolescent Health is one of 26 Prevention Research Centers supported by the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention. We are committed to assisting urban youth in becoming healthy and productive adults. Together with community partners, the Center conducts research that identifies the needs and strengths of young people and tests programs designed to promote the health and well-being of young people. Our research focuses on sexual and reproductive health, school based programming, and youth employment and training programs.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
The Moore Center and the Center for Adolescent Health is in search of a highly motivated Data Manager who will be responsible for data management activities to support the ongoing research projects conducted by investigators at the Moore Center and the Center for Adolescent Health. The ideal candidate will have excellent reading, writing, critical thinking, problem solving, and interpersonal skills. Primary work includes:
- Maintain and update research data sets/databases;
- Organize and perform data cleaning and manipulation including creating, modifying, and recoding variables;
- Merge different data sets and create analysis files using standard statistical programming skills in SAS, R, SPSS, and/or STATA;
- Identify and propose solutions to systematic issues with data;
- Write detailed documentation/specifications for analysis data sets and related files;
- Provide descriptive and analytical reports, including tables, graphs, and figures;
- Provide technical assistance on statistical approaches to team members, trainees, and faculty members;
- Perform and document specialized statistical analyses;
- Ensure all data procedures are compliant with IRB protocols and data are stored securely and privately;
- Assist with literature search, grant and manuscript writing;
- Attend team meetings and work in a highly collaboratively setting;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in related discipline
- Three (3) years related experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Economics, Public Health, or a related field and 3 years of related experience.
- Prior data management and analysis experience strongly preferred.
- Prior work experience in academic or research setting is preferred.
- Strong communication skills and experience working with diverse research teams also desired.
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Experience in working with large data sets through SAS, R, SPSS or STATA programming is required;
- Must be able to demonstrate excellent data management skills and have experience working with datasets of varying complexity and size.
- Intermediate or advanced knowledge of MS Access is a plus;
- Experience in data collection is desirable.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
