This is an exciting time to be an engineer at the University of Birmingham.

Following the creation of the School of Engineering in 2016, which brought together the disciplines of Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Electronic, Electrical & Systems Engineering, we are into Phase 2 of our renaissance. We are investing significantly in people and infrastructure – our new £65m signature build and our £28m UK Rail Research and Innovation Network (UKRRIN) Centre of Excellence for Digital Systems are currently under construction.  In addition, our world-leading National Buried Infrastructure Facility will shortly open in October early 2020.

The School has a history of undertaking world class research and is proud of its strong and extensive links with industry ensuring that our innovative research is rapidly translated into practice. As part of our investment, we are now seeking to appoint up to four motivated and highly research active engineers to join our dynamic team and help us create the future.  We are particularly interested in colleagues who demonstrate ambition, innovation and leadership, and thus we will consider excellent candidates in closely aligned fields.

It is expected that the appointees will have excellent communication skills and the ability to undertake inspirational teaching.  Successful candidates will be expected to be able to teach at undergraduate and postgraduate level, and to supervise final year undergraduate and postgraduate Masters projects.

Candidates will be expected to have a first degree in engineering or an allied subject, a relevant doctoral qualification and be able to demonstrate their commitment to the development of the School.

We pride ourselves in the inclusive nature of School and will happily explore alternative working arrangements in order to ensure that a suitable environment exists where the best candidate can succeed.  Thus, all the positions are available to candidates requiring part-time (subject to visa requirements) and/or flexible working.

Informal enquiries about the post may be made to Professor Mark Sterling, Head of School of Engineering (Telephone: 0121 414 45065; e-mail m.sterling@bham.ac.uk).  Applicants are invited to submit their application (including a CV detailing future research plans) online to us, via http://www.bham.ac.uk/staff/jobs
