We are seeking a dynamic, visionary and skilled leader to take the  Department, one of the largest in the UK and one of four in the Faculty of Health and Applied Sciences at UWE Bristol, to the next level.  

With over 2200 undergraduate students in all four fields of nursing and midwifery, a substantial CPD portfolio built in partnership with Health Education England and local NHS and healthcare partners and a thriving culture of research and scholarship, the Department is currently in the process of revalidating its NMC-registered programmes and expanding its CPD, international and research offers. This is an exciting time to lead a large team of passionate, dedicated and skilled colleagues in a Faculty and University committed to excellence in all that we do. 

To support all academic learning we have excellent facilities on site, including state of the art simulation wards (Adult and Paediatric) and a brand new multi-functional learning and assessment space which encompasses a simulated housing space and wider facilities including our extensive library and study spaces. 

The Head of Department is responsible for setting a clear and ambitious vision for the department, delivering on key strategy and performance objectives through the effective implementation of the department plan, to support wider faculty and university’s strategic ambitions and will provide outstanding leadership in advancing the department’s academic provision, enhancing quality and reputation, and student and staff experiences. They have overall responsibility for managing the performance of the department and line manage the Department's Academic Director and Associate Heads of Department. 

Heads of Department will develop and promote the profile of the department at national and international levels in furtherance of university’s strategic ambitions, and as an active member of the faculty executive, contribute to the strategic and operational management of the faculty. 

This post requires enhanced DBS clearance. 

First stage interviews will take place on Tuesday 30th April and final stage interviews are planned for Friday 10th May 2019.

Home to UWE's Faculty of Health and Applied Sciences, Glenside Campus offers excellent teaching facilities, these include a selection of inter-professional simulation suites, enabling students to practice and develop professional competencies, and one of the best health care libraries in England.
