Our strategic focus is education of Biomedical Laboratory Scientists and research aiming to improve diagnostics and treatment of cancer patients. Our research activities contributes to the development of improved diagnostics and personalized therapy based on new understanding of basal cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in tumour development. Ongoing research particularly focus on cell-to-cell communication, drug interactions and regulation of starvation responses (autophagy) in solid tumours.
We are looking to further develop our expertise within the field of cell- and molecular biology, increase our research activity and develop our teaching within biomedical laboratory sciences.
The position is expected to establishing own research activities and apply for and lead externally funded projects. The position may be offered as a full professorship to an established researcher or at the associate professor level for candidates earlier in their career that show future promise.
The Department is centrally located in an active environment for research and development and embedded within the areas of the laboratories of St. Olav`s University hospital and the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at NTNU with access to state of the art core facilities for genomic, proteomic and imaging studies as well as an animal facility.
The position reports to Head of Department.
The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing research activity that address relevant issues within basic cell biology and molecular mechanisms for future diagnostics in personalized cancer treatment and contribute to clinical, theoretical and technological development. The established research activity is expected to utilize and explore academic, methodical and/or technological synergies within existing research activity at the Department. The research activity should enhance the interaction between molecular biology/medicine and technology and strengthen the department's collaboration with clinical departments and other research groups locally, nationally and internationally.
The successful candidate will be jointly responsible for teaching activities at the Department Biomedical Laboratory Science within the topics immunology, biochemistry, cell and molecular biology, and various subjects in medical laboratory technology. The position holder is also expected to take part in developing new courses at bachelor and master level and in courses for continuing education within Biomedical Laboratory Science. Supervision of undergraduate students, master students and PhD candidates is a natural part of the job.
The applicant should hold a PhD and document a strong research and academic competence within cell- and molecular biology, preferably within the topic cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in cancer and cancer development. The position requires experience with analyzes of biological samples, documented competence with high-capacity protein-, RNA- or DNA-analyzes and broad and relevant technological competence. Experience form relevant animal models will be emphasized.
The applicant’s research must be documented and of high international quality, showing both breadth and depth. Production must reflect an independent research profile and show the ability to take up new research issues. Continuous research activity is a prerequisite for the granting of professorial competence. Strong emphasis will be placed on publication of research results in recognized international journals within his or her subject area.
