  • Full-Time (38 hours per week), 12 Months Fixed Term, Base Salary: Level 8/9, $111,866 p.a. - $136,883 p.a., Plus a generous employer’s contribution to superannuation.

About the opportunity 

Both positions report to the Head of Surgery, the Senior Registrar in Small Animal Surgery, will assist in running a surgical referral service at the UVTH-Sydney. Clinical Specialist in Small Animal Surgery, will establish and run a surgical referral service at the UVTH-Sydney.

This involves assisting with the clinical training of undergraduate and postgraduate students of the UVTH-Sydney, assisting with the development & implementation of the Unit Strategic Plan and actively contributing to its management, including contribution to the financial viability of the Unit. It is expected to develop a case load of animals referred for management of surgical problems, and provide surgical services for the purpose of teaching undergraduate & postgraduate students and residents in the UVTH-Sydney. The position also involves engagement in clinical research to further the knowledge of their speciality.

  • Have postgraduate experience in small animal surgery including a proven ability to make management recommendations, implement programs and achieve operating objectives.
  • Degree in veterinary science registrable in NSW.
  • An ECVS or ACVS Diplomate, enabling registration with the NSW Veterinary Surgeons Board as a Specialist in Surgery.
  • Supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate clinical trainees on surgical rotations

The HEO Level will be level 8 for Senior Registrar, or level 9 for Clinical Specialist, dependent on the qualifications of who we employ.

These positions both operate within the School of Veterinary Science’s teaching hospitals.

The school provides a range of undergraduate & postgraduate degree programs in veterinary & associated disciplines. The Teaching hospitals provide the clinical learning experience for undergraduate students & staff engaged in professional training programs. The hospitals are commercial centres & provide a range of veterinary services to the public.

You will provide surgery and clinical services, clinically train students and residents, as well as contribute to the Unit’s strategic plan, management and financial viability.

The Sydney School of Veterinary Science at the University of Sydney is ranked first in the Southern hemisphere and 11th in the world among veterinary faculties (QS rankings 2015). Regarding research, the faculty is the highest ranked veterinary school in Australia (ERA 5/5). This position operates within the Sydney School of Veterinary Science's teaching hospital at the Camperdown Campus. The School of Veterinary Science educates students and conducts research in veterinary and related sciences. The teaching hospital provides the clinical learning experience for students and staff engaged in professional veterinary undergraduate and postgraduate training programs. The hospital is a commercial centre that provides a range of first-class and best-practice veterinary services to the public. This role will provide clinical services to clients of the hospitals. The appointee, will train, supervise and asses students during rotations
