Teesside University is a vibrant, modern university in the North East of England, with a reputation for academic excellence and for an outstanding and stimulating student and learning experience, informed by engagement with research, business and the professions.  Our wide range of study options are supported by a commitment to investing in our campus and facilities, with £300m to be spent over the next ten years. We have set out an ambitious programme of transformation that will drive academic innovation and deliver excellence for our students, partners and the communities we serve.

Applicants are invited from innovative researchers to join Teesside University’s School of Science, Engineering and Design. The School has over 1000 students enrolled in undergraduate and postgraduate bioscience related courses with 32 academic staff directly associated with biosciences. The University is about to commission the National Horizons Centre (NHC), a new £22M purpose built biosciences research, education and training facility. Located in Central Park, Darlington it is five minutes from Darlington railway station and adjacent to the CPI National Biologics Manufacturing Centre and Teesside University’s Centre for Professional Executive Development.

The principal research platforms supported by the NHC are biomedicine, bioinformatics, bioprocessing, bio-imaging and bioanalytical science. Candidates with research experience and expertise in these fields would be particularly welcome. The candidate would be expected to support the on-going undergraduate and postgraduate teaching program and also to undertake internationally competitive research. Candidates should already enjoy a national and/or international profile and be ready to take this to the next level.

The research to be carried out at the NHC is intrinsically multi-disciplinary in nature and candidates should have a successful track record in carrying out research of this kind. A major focus of the University and the NHC is working together with industrial partners on solving technical and research problems of joint interest. An ideal candidate would already have established successful industrial partnerships of this kind and be keen to build on their success.
