Position overview

The ANU College of Science (CoS) comprises: the Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics, the Research School of Biology, the Research School of Chemistry, the Research School of Earth Science, the Fenner School of Environment and Society, the Mathematical Sciences Institute, the Research School of Physics and Engineering, and the Centre for the Public Awareness of Science. Staff and students within the ANU College of Science conduct research and delivers a research-led education program that encompasses the entire breadth of the sciences, supported by extensive international networks and by world-class facilities. The College has a strong tradition of research excellence that has fostered distinguished Nobel Laureates and Kyoto Prize winners and that trains scientific leaders in disciplines in which the ANU is consistently ranked in the top twenty in the world.

Working with leading researchers from the National Environmental Science Program’s Threatened Species Recovery Hub, this position will conduct cutting-edge social and ecological research to develop Australia-wide strategies for threatened species monitoring and contribute to the growing field of assessing research impact.

This position is part of the National Environmental Science Program's Threatened Species Recovery (TSR) Hub, which comprises eleven research institutions, including The Australian National University. The appointment will work within the Conservation and Landscape Ecology research group, led by Professor David Lindenmayer, at the Fenner School of Environment and Society. The group conducts world-class research on conservation and landscape ecology, with a focus on long-term ecological monitoring.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to build strong networks through undertaking two major synthesis projects with the potential for significant impact, focused on enhancing threatened species monitoring and developing methods to assess outcomes from conservation research collaborations. This work will draw on existing partnerships between the TSR Hub, governments and over 100 agencies throughout Australia.
