The Gardner/Otchy/Davison labs in the Dept. of Biology seek a Sr. Research Technician to help develop and disseminate novel imaging technology for measuring neural activity at expanded scales in freely moving animals. This individual will contribute to mechano-optical, electronic, and software development of miniature implantable fluorescence microscopes (and associated technologies).
Additional responsibilities include performing animal surgeries and in vivo tests of device performance, analyzing experimental data, coordinating and leading training sessions, and generating project documentation.
The position will include independent experimental work applying these tools to probe circuit function in behaving animals.
Strong candidates for this position may have experience with one or more of the following: oOptical and/or electronics engineering o3D design (SketchUp and/or Solidworks) and fabrication (3D printing) oProgramming (MATLAB, Python, C/C++, Swift, Arduino) oSmall animal handling and surgery While engineering or physics backgrounds are likely most suitable; all candidates interested in the project are encouraged to apply.
