Faculty Position, the School of Public Health, Department of Environmental Health

Job Description

The Department of Environmental Health at the Boston University School of Public Health (BUSPH) is seeking applicants to join a dynamic, collaborative, and forward-thinking community of researchers and educators. This is an open-rank recruitment. The successful candidates will join a well-established department with 20 primary faculty members and existing strengths including urban health in the context of climate change, analyses of exposures to and health effects of complex mixtures of chemical and non-chemical stressors, solutions-oriented research across multiple environmental health sub-disciplines, and community-engaged research.

The Department of Environmental Health believes that the cultural and social diversity of our faculty, staff, and students is vitally important to the distinction and excellence of our research and academic programs. Boston University is an AAU institution with a rich tradition dedicated to inclusion and social justice, and the School of Public Health takes the University’s commitment even further with its own detailed plan for fostering a diverse and inclusive community. We are eager to have join our ranks colleagues who support our institutional commitment to ensuring BU is inclusive, equitable, diverse, and a place where all constituents can thrive.

Required Skills

Candidates for this position must have a doctorate in environmental health sciences or a related/adjacent field, and should demonstrate a track record of independent and collaborative research and extramural funding consistent with rank and experience. Successful candidates will be expected to engage in both independent and collaborative research, participate in teaching and mentoring of master’s and doctoral students, and provide service to the department, university, and the profession. We especially welcome applicants who are collaborative, passionate about environmental justice, and strong communicators. This search is not focused on a specific area of environmental health. However, topics of special interest to us include climate and health, data science and analytic methods for “big data”, high-resolution or personalized exposure assessment, and evaluation of the human health effects of chemicals in consumer products.

Interested candidates are invited to submit a curriculum vitae and a cover letter that describes how your interests fit within the mission of the Department of Environmental Health, and how you will contribute to our goals to improve the health and well-being of communities and to engender a more inclusive and diverse department and school. Materials should be submitted via  academicjobsonline.org . Application review will begin by March 31, 2019, with interviews throughout the spring and early summer. Applications will continue to be accepted until the positions are filled.

Boston University is an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law. We are a VEVRAA Federal Contractor.
