Job Description

The Department of Pediatrics at the Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM)/Boston Medical Center is actively seeking a qualified medical geneticist to join the Division of Genetics. The Division provides genetic consultation, screening, and management for a wide range of ages of patients, the majority of whom are pediatric at this time.  The individual will primarily provide care through the Pediatric Specialty Group ambulatory clinic, as well as some inpatient consultations with the possibility of new opportunities in collaboration with other departments based on interest. The physician will work closely with a full time medical geneticist, a pediatric genetic counselor, as well as with genetic counselors in the Cancer Center and the Antenatal Units at BMC. Candidates should be board-eligible or certified in Medical Genetics.

The position comes with opportunity to combine clinical work, research, and education in an academic Department of Pediatrics. Members of the Division of Genetics also work closely with the BU Master’s Program in Genetic Counseling, providing didactics and clinical training for 11 GC students per class.

The Department of Pediatrics at Boston Medical Center dedicates its service to children, adolescents and young adults in urban communities. The majority of families seen in the hospital come from underserved racial and ethnic minority populations and resources are largely directed at serving low-income families, immigrants, and the homeless. Thirty percent of patients do not speak English as a primary language, and many face challenging deterrents to healthy development associated with poverty and socioeconomic stress.

Boston University Medical Campus is comprised of Boston University School of Medicine and Boston Medical Center. The Medical School and Hospital are physically connected and professional hospital staff are on faculty at BUSM. Boston Medical Center is located in Boston’s Historic South End District and provides care to a large urban population with a strong connection to our community health center network.

Required Skills
