Learning Material Development and School Support Officer (at the rank of Assistant Lecturer) in the Centre for Advancement of Chinese Language Education and Research (CACLER) within the Faculty of Education (Ref.: 494185) (to commence as soon as possible until July 31, 2021, on a fixed-term basis with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 10% of basic salary, with the possibility of renewal)
Applicants should possess a Bachelor's degree in Education, a professional teaching qualification in kindergartens (e.g. Certificate in Early Childhood Education) or equivalent, and at least 3 years' post-qualification teaching experience. They should have experience in developing learning and teaching materials or curriculum in collaboration with principals and school teachers; knowledge of educational research with experience in conducting classroom-based research; and a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese. They should also be self-motivated, have a strong sense of responsibility, and be able to work independently and in a team. Those with experience in developing school-based curriculum for non-Chinese speaking (esp. South Asian) kindergarten children would have an advantage.
The appointee will work for a project providing support for non-Chinese speaking kindergarten children to learn Chinese.
- design various learning and teaching materials that cater to the needs of both non-Chinese speaking and Chinese-speaking children in kindergartens;
- collaborate with school teachers to implement learning and teaching with the materials developed, by conducting collaborative lesson planning, lesson observation, and post-lesson debriefing to build teachers’ capabilities;
- conduct data collection to review the effectiveness of the learning materials and classroom instructions;
- write action plans, research reports and resource packages for the dissemination of learning and teaching materials with good practices in innovative teaching strategies and enhancing teachers' professional capabilities; and
- conduct other activities as appropriate to achieve the objectives of the project.
