  • Salary Package: from (Level A) $71,781 – $96,655 p.a. (Level B) $101,877 – $120,537 p.a. (subject to qualifications and experience), plus 17% employers superannuation and annual leave loading

The Role

We are seeking a talented individual with experience in health economics or biostatistics to contribute to several current and future research projects within our health technology assessment team. A key component of the role will be evaluating Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (PBAC) submissions and conduct research for the purposes of publishing in leading academic journals, and research sponsored by government and non-government organisations.

You will be skilled in:

  • Conducting economic evaluations, including modelled cost-effectiveness analysis;
  • Critically appraising PBAC and MSAC submissions;
  • Analysing clinical trial and patient level data;
  • Preparing high quality written reports and peer-reviewed journal articles;
  • Engaging and liaising with government, business and not-for-profit organisations in relation to sponsored research.

Macquarie University’s Centre for the Health Economy (MUCHE) is a young, dynamic and growing team of health economists and public health experts that undertake innovative research on health, ageing and human services.

Our vision is to create a world where decision makers are empowered with applied, trusted and influential research into health and human services policy and systems. Our mission is to deliver leading innovative research by operating professionally, collaboratively and sustainably.

To this end, we undertake research funded by competitive grants and collaborative research for government and non-government organisations. Our research is used to inform public debate, assist decision-making, and help formulate strategy and policy.

Our collaborative partners include the Faculty of Business and Economics, Faculty of Human Sciences, and the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, including the world renowned Australian Institute of Health Innovation (AIHI) and Centre for Emotional Health.

We are also affiliated with several multi-university research centres, including the NHMRC Centre for Research Excellence in Digital Health, NHMRC Centre for Research Excellence in Suicide Prevention II, and the Digital Health CRC. Our collaboration extends to leading Australian and international universities and research centres.

Essential:

  • A post-graduate qualification in health economics, epidemiology, statistics, pharmacy or pharmacology;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Demonstrated time management skills and ability to work to deadlines;
  • Willingness and ability to engage with government and non-government organisations;
  • Make independent and original contributions to research with significant impact;
  • Skills in statistical analysis, data interpretation, conducting systematic reviews and meta-analyses.

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with the Australian health care system;
  • Experience working with senior academics and industry partners;
  • Able to commence with minimal delay.
