Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Finance, Research-Focussed

  • Utilise your PhD in Finance or Econometrics
  • Join AUT – one of the top 30 millennial universities in the world
  • Permanent full-time role based in the Auckland CBD

Auckland University of Technology Business School has a reputation as a leading provider of innovative undergraduate and postgraduate business education, with strong links to business, employers and professional bodies. Accredited by AACSB, the Business School has over 4500 students and over 150 academic staff - and is ranked in the world’s top 200 for Business and Management Studies (QS Rankings 2018).

The Department

As part of AUT’s Business School, the Department of Finance was established in 2005 and is considered to be one of the leading finance departments in Australasia. We currently have thirteen full-time staff and several PhD students. We provide strong research support and have access to major databases. The department is ambitious and specialises in empirical finance, with our staff routinely publishing in top ranked international journals. We also work with the Auckland Centre for Financial Research (http://www.acfr.aut.ac.nz) which produces high quality, internationally recognised research. Our culture is a small but focussed, open and highly collaborative group which supports the growth of its people. We have a good research environment, share our expertise and time and offer generous support for conferences. The faculty also offers a variety of contestable research funds.

The Role

We have an outstanding permanent, full-time opportunity for a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer of Finance to develop their career in teaching, research and service.

You’ll actively publish from your existing and new research, ideally in empirical finance. For an early career academic you would already have the formations of a solid research pipeline; a more experienced candidate will already have a proven research track record across quality publications. Research is well supported within the department and we try to give our staff as much research time as possible. You’ll also teach across finance programmes as assigned by the Head of Department, which will include at least one evening class per week. We embrace flexible, innovative research and industry-led approaches to teaching where the student experience is maximised. It is also expected that over time the successful candidate will seek external research funding, engage with business, the professions and the community, and contribute to Departmental/Faculty activities.

Start Date: Ideally the successful candidate will start either before Semester Two begins (15 July 2019) - or in January 2020.

Key requirements for the role

  • PhD (or very close to submission for examination) in Finance or Econometrics
  • Evidence of previous teaching or teaching assistant experience
  • Research interests ideally within the empirical finance field
  • A strong research publication pipeline
  • Collaborative, open and engaging attitude which is flexible to departmental requirements
  • Senior Lecturers must also have evidence of curriculum development experience and ideally experience supervising PhD/ Masters students and success in external funding research bids.

Appointment level and salary will be commensurate with the skills and experience of the successful applicant.
