Are you technically minded and a good communicator who is able to solve and explain video game software/hardware problems?

Then this job may be for you! The Video Games Design Technician will join a new research and teaching initiative to develop novel story form and grow a next generation of talented video games artists and storytellers. Led by Royal Holloway, University of London, StoryFutures is part of the Arts and Humanities Research Council’s Creative Industries Clusters Programme. Working as part of a dedicated team, this new role will facilitate creative and collaborative development of gaming and immersive story experiences through provision of technical support, data management, operational skills training, and specialist advisory support to the Centre’s research students, staff and partners.

You will have specialist knowledge in video games production, with particular expertise in using, supporting, and giving training in Unreal. Your key responsibility will be the technical and operational management of the Centre’s video game design facilities, including resource scheduling, management of physical and digital assets, ensuring effective project communication between partners, and playing a leading role in the planning, acquisition, and provision of technical and creative resources. You will also have knowledge of the gaming production pipeline and a good understanding of various related aspects, such as coding, motion capture, virtual/augmented/mixed reality, animation, visual effects, digital artwork, sound recording/ sound design, quality control, digital asset management, and shared storage systems. Owing to the dynamic nature the work, the Department is especially keen to provide opportunities for training and development to complement existing your knowledge and skills.

You will provide hands on support for StoryFutures facilities, working with other technicians to deliver teaching and research programmes in gaming and immersive production. You will be a practical problem solver capable of basic fault diagnosis, repair and operation for maintaining and upgrading gaming workstations and related equipment across the audiovisual production chain.

You will also have excellent communication skills with the ability to liaise with diverse stakeholders, including those from Higher Education and Creative Industries.

This is a full-time 4 year post, available as soon as possible. It is a post with strong potential for contract extension. This post is based in Egham, Surrey where the College is situated in a beautiful, leafy campus near to Windsor Great Park and within commuting distance from London. The successful applicant will spend significant time liaising with industry partners across the local region, including central London. An attractive relocation package is available.
