Research Associate in Physics

Department : Physics

The Levitated Nanophysics group at King's is a new research team investigating the boundary between quantum physics and nanotechnology. In this role, you will shape the new field of rotational optomechanics, with opportunities to develop technology as well as explore fundamental physics.

The success of this project will rely on your creativity and team-working abilities, you will mentor Ph.D. students on the team, and will guide the project in collaboration with the group leader.

You will be expected to develop into an expert in the levitated optomechanics community, to continuously learn new skills, and to be able to confidently place our research in context. This role is compatible with a range of physics research backgrounds, including quantum optics, atomic physics, and optical tweezers.

This role will enable you to travel and present your work at international conferences, and to disseminate your ideas through the publication of research articles. There will be ample opportunity for international collaboration into fundamental quantum science and nanothermodynamics, and potentially with industry to explore device development. We encourage the pursuit of teaching and public engagement activities, and general personal development.

This post will be offered on a fixed-term contract for 24 months.

This is a full-time post - 100% full time equivalent.

The selection process will include a panel interview and a presentation.

Grade and Salary : Grade 6, £37,412 to £44,015 per annum, inclusive of £3,223 per annum London Allowance.
