Associate Professor / Assistant Professor in Environmental Engineering

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) is a government-funded tertiary institution in Hong Kong.  It offers programmes at various levels including Doctorate, Master’s, and Bachelor’s degrees.  It has a full-time academic staff strength of around 1,400.  The total annual consolidated expenditure budget of the University is in excess of HK$7.4 billion. 

DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL AND ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING

Associate Professor / Assistant Professor in Environmental Engineering (Ref. 19030706)

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering enjoys a high reputation in conducting application-oriented research and has well established connections with industry partners and government agencies in Hong Kong.  It offers academic programmes at various levels.  In addition to PhD and MSc programmes, the Department currently offers 3 undergraduate programmes, namely BEng(Hons) in Civil Engineering, BEng(Hons) in Environmental Engineering and Sustainable Development and BSc(Hons) in Environmental and Occupational Safety and Health, with a new BEng(Hons) in Sustainable Structural and Fire Engineering programme to be launched in 2019/20.  The Department currently has about 44 faculty members and 38 technical and administrative personnel, and is committed to international standards of excellence in teaching and research. The appointee will be required to (a) teach relevant undergraduate and postgraduate environmental subjects, such as Water and Wastewater Treatment Techniques, Sustainable Development Strategy, and Environmental Impact Assessment; (b) supervise student projects and theses; (c) initiate, lead and participate in research activities; and (d) undertake other relevant duties, including programme leadership, curriculum development, programme validation and accreditation, etc.

Applicants should (a) have a PhD degree in Environmental Engineering/Science or Environmental/Occupational Safety and Health or Civil Engineering (major in Environmental Engineering); (b) have solid experience in teaching and a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and research; (c) have a good record of research and scholarship; and (d) be able to demonstrate effective classroom teaching skills and have good interpersonal skills.

Applicants for appointment at Associate Professor level should have substantial years of relevant post-qualification experience and an excellent record of relevant academic and/or research achievement.  Applicants with less experience will be considered for appointment as Assistant Professor.

Remuneration and Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment for Assistant Professor will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
