Applications are invited for appointment as Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology (Ref.: 494179), to commence as soon as possible, on a three-year fixed-term contract, with the possibility of renewal and with consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract, subject to satisfactory performance.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in Biological or Biomedical Sciences or a related field, with a proven track record working on human pathogenic viruses. They should have substantial research experience in studying the pathogenesis of emerging infectious diseases such as coronavirus-, enterovirus 71-, influenza- and HIV-related infections, and work experience in BSL-3 laboratories.  Those with research experience in cell biology and molecular virology using cutting-edge technologies would have an advantage.  As the Department is heavily involved in teaching of the undergraduate programmes (M.B.B.S., B.Biomed.Sc., B.D.S., B.Nurs., B.Chin.Med. and B.Pharm.) as well as postgraduate programmes (M.Med.Sc, M.Phil. and Ph.D.), those with proven capacity and teaching experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and in developing teaching curriculums would have an advantage. Preference will be given to those with track record in undertaking administrative duties and/or Knowledge Exchange activities at Departmental, Faculty and/or University levels. The Department’s main research focus is on emerging infectious diseases. The appointee is expected to work independently, manage on-going research projects on emerging infectious diseases, and consistently publish original research articles in high-impact journals.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.  The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.  Housing benefits will also be provided as applicable.
