Information about the position
The Department of Clinical and Molecular Medicine (http://www.ntnu.edu/ikom) currently has a vacant fixed term, full time (100 %) position for a Postdoctoral Research Associatefor 3 years starting in summer/autumn 2019. We seek a talented and enthusiastic individual with experience in mass spectrometry imaging.
The objective of the project is to study metabolic and proteomic features of metastatic breast cancer using matrix assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry imaging (MALDI-MSI). Understanding the molecular processes underlying invasion and metastasis is important for development of future therapies. The postdoc/researcher will be responsible for analysis of biobanked breast cancer specimens using MALDI-MSI, and correlate molecular characteristics with disease outcome.
The project is funded by the Norwegian Cancer Society, and the candidate will work in the MR Cancer Group under supervision of Professor Siver Moestue (https://www.ntnu.edu/isb/mr-cancer). The research group counts approx. 30 persons with competence within physics, life sciences, clinical medicine, chemistry and more.

Job description

- Planning and execution of MALDI-MSI experiments
- Validation of MALDI-MSI analysis of paraffin-embedded tissue
- Metabolic analysis of historical breast cancer biopsy material
- Integration of MALDI-MSI data with immunohistochemical and clinical data
Qualification requirements
Requirements of the applicant:
- PhD within biochemistry, medical biology or equivalent within the life sciences
- Experience in mass spectrometry-based proteomics or metabolomics
- Excellent English skills, spoken and written
Emphasis will also be placed on:
- Experience with MALDI-MSI or similar imaging techniques
- Experience with handling large datasets, data processing and programming tools (e.g. R, MatLab or Python) and multivariate analysis.
- Prior written, scientific output
- Excellent communication abilities
A postdoctoral research fellowships is a qualification position in which the main objective is qualification for work in academic positions. Completion of a Norwegian doctoral degree or corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree is required. The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants and national guidelines for appointment as PhD, postdoctor and research assistant.

Salary and conditions
The gross salary for the position of researcher code 1109 is normally remunerated at gross from NOK 515 200 – 597 400 before tax per year, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2 % is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.
Postdoctoral candidates are remunerated in code 1352, and are normally remunerated at gross from NOK 515 200 before tax per year. From the salary, 2 % is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.
Appointment takes place on the terms that apply to State employees at any time, and after appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.
