Stanford's Science and Engineering Quad (SEQ) unites many disciplines — Earth Sciences, Engineering, Humanities & Sciences, Law, Medicine and the Dean of Research — in close physical proximity to encourage the collaboration and tangential thinking necessary to produce world-changing innovation.

The SEQ is an integrated complex of four buildings designed to advance world changing research and teaching at the intersection of disciplines. This is a front-line, highly visible position, helping to maintain the facilities and ensure that they are ready to receive faculty, staff, students and guests. The facilities include 58 conference/meeting rooms, 14 event spaces, plus various open community spaces.

Stanford's Science and Engineering Quad (SEQ) seeks an Operations and Services Assistant to help maintain the world-class look and feel of the buildings. The SEQ Operations and Services Assistant provides excellent customer service and works as part of a collaborative team, with minimal supervision in the field with set daily and ad-hoc tasks. Your responsibilities include:

  • Testing and troubleshooting Audio/Visual (AV) equipment in conference rooms to ensure working order; reporting all AV issues to contractor and monitoring visits and invoices.
  • Communicating to community when AV is broken in certain conference rooms, and track status of repair and providing workarounds for community when AV is broken.
  • Managing portable video conferencing and teleconferencing equipment.
  • Providing event support for AV equipment, and be on-call when needed.
  • Maintaining inventory of conference room supplies, kitchen supplies, and ordering/restocking as needed.
  • Monitoring condition of conference rooms/event spaces, and resetting furniture into default layouts; reporting problems.
  • Maintaining inventory of broken or damaged furniture working directly with vendors for repairs;
  • Replacing supplies for our networked printers. Working directly with vendor to report issues.
  • Mail room sorting including forwarding misdirected mail and updating occupant lists.
  • Flexibility in completing any other assigned duties.

To be successful in this position, you will bring:

  • A high school diploma and some customer support experience preferred, or combination of educational equivalent and relevant experience. This is an entry level position.
  • Basic computer skills and proven experience with office software and email applications.
  • Basic knowledge of audio/video technology.
  • Demonstrated success in following through and completing routine tasks under minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills enabling you to interact effectively with a wide variety of people in a diverse environment.
  • Excellent customer service and social skills.
  • An ability to prioritize and multi-task.

In addition, physical requirements include:

  • Position involves lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling furniture and objects that weigh up to 30 pounds.
  • Significant amount of time on feet walking and/or climbing stairs.
