Full-Time Research Assistant for the research project “Social Capital and Integration of Low-Income Binational Families in Singapore” 

  • The project duration: September 2018 to August 2021
  • The contract period of the full-time Research Assistant: 1 April 2019 (to be confirmed) to 31 March 2020, 1 year, renewable for the second year 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordination of the process of data collection and data analysis:
    • Liaises and networks with participating social service agencies for recruitment of study participants [including email follow-ups and reminders], and data collection,
    • Contacts potential study participants and schedules sessions for survey/interview with them
    • Recruits,  trains and supervises translators, surveyors, interviewers, and transcribers [students assistants]
    • Is in charge of payment process for study participants, translators, surveyors, interviewers, transcribers and venue rentals [i.e., administering payments]
    • Arranges and books venues for data collection [i.e., survey and interview sessions]
    • Is responsible for data entry of the survey data
  • Academic work:
    • Assists with NUS-IRB application
    • Conducts literature search and review
    • Prepares the project related forms and documents [e.g., survey questionnaire]
    • Drafts the first year project report
  • Administrative duties
    • Keeps meeting minutes
    • Schedules meetings and visits with research team members and any external parties/agencies
    • Makes purchases of vouchers, equipment [e.g., tablet PCs], and project related materials and consumables [e.g., stationaries, etc.]
    • Makes photocopies of project materials when necessary
    • Regularly keeps track of budget spent
    • Keeps filing and organizes all hard copy materials used for the project
    • Assists with PI’s claim submission for reimbursement
    • Performs other project related duties as assigned by PI
    • Applicants with more than a few years of work experiences in the social service sector will be preferred
