Occupational Summary

Plan and coordinate a comprehensive fundraising program with individuals, corporations and foundations to raise funds to support a defined focus in the Department of Anesthesiology; assume primary responsibility for selected fundraising projects and prospects as assigned. This position reports to the Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology and collaborates with the Duke Health Development and Alumni Affairs office regarding fundraising efforts.

Work Performed

Assist departmental administration in determining feasibility and funding strategies for new and ongoing programs; plan and establish goals consistent with the direction or overall objectives of the program. Development initiatives include the Dream Program, Newman Professorship, alumni solicitation, potential grateful patients and gifts toward the 50th department anniversary in 2021.

Identify, cultivate, solicit and track gifts from individuals, corporations, government and foundation prospects to develop their interest and participation in specific fundraising projects and to provide information concerning the utilization of gifts; select and implement fund raising methodologies such as direct mail, written proposals, and ongoing solicitations.

Assist in developing and implement policies and procedures related to gift acknowledgement, donor recognition, record keeping, communications and other related activities. Maintain effective collecting, recording, accounting, acknowledgement and follow-up on all private gifts consistent with Duke Health Development & Alumni Affairs policy and procedures.

Develop appropriate communications such as fund-raising proposals, newsletters, brochures, and pamphlets to include editing and production of publications, web site and non-print communication projects.

Attend Duke Health Development & Alumni Affairs meetings as appropriate to keep abreast of fundraising activities and best practices.

Travel to Department events will be required as assigned by the Chair.

Perform other related duties as assigned incidental to the work described herein.

Education

Work requires the skills and knowledge normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree.

Experience

3 years progressive fund raising/customer relations/marketing or sales and promotions experience in team environment. Proven verbal and written communication skills and computer experience with Windows environment. Occasional travel required.OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
