£40,792 - £48,677 per annum

Fixed-term until 30 November 2020

Ref: UOS021853

We have an exciting opportunity for a National Technician Development Centre Manager to play a critical role in the success of the National Technician Development Centre (NTDC). This post is suitable for a secondment opportunity.

You will have worked in the Higher Education (HE) sector and have experience and knowledge of HE operations. You will have demonstrable experience of leading and delivering multiple projects and of leading a multidisciplinary team in a responsive and dynamic environment.

We would expect you to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to work with people across all levels, for example, from apprentices/trainees through to Executive Board members and Vice-Chancellors.

We are looking for someone with experience of using their expertise to advise public sector organisations, ideally within the Higher Education sector, and develop and deliver strategic and operational interventions.

With an enquiring mind, and excellent analytical skills, you have the ability to identify and analyse situation-critical information and achieve creative solutions.

You will be responsible for ensuring the financial sustainability of the Centre. To achieve this we need someone who can:

  • build and maintain business critical working relationships
  • identify funding opportunities relevant to the aims of the NTDC
  • deliver a successful business model.

There will also be the opportunity to visit other UK Higher Education institutions and other sector events, including:

  • liaising with key contacts
  • delivering workshops
  • presenting at national conferences.

The NTDC, launched in December 2017, based at the University of Sheffield, was awarded investment of £1.125 million to support universities across the UK. The Centre brings together national experts from within the HE community, providing access to information, expertise and tools, to enable institutions to create a sustainable future for technical staff and services. The centre is funded for a total of 3 years from December 2017 with the expectation that it will be self-sufficient by November 2020.

The Centre also advises other groups and institutions on national issues affecting technicians across all sectors.

Although the NTDC operates independently of the University of Sheffield, you will be employed by the University and enjoy their terms and conditions of employment.

We’re one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK. The University’s Total Reward Package includes a competitive salary, a generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional development. We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles from across the world, whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
