We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic recent graduate (BSc/MSc level) to work on an explorative project addressing whether 1) information theory may provide good metrics to quantify cell behaviour in simulations and in vitro experiments and 2) whether machine learning or related computational approaches/paradigms can provide a valid framework to optimize/adapt cell behaviour in simulations of vascular disease. The candidate will be based in Dr Bentley's Cellular Adaptive Behaviour Lab at the Francis Crick Institute.
The aim is to primarily develop a new simple simulation testbed to compare information theoretic measures and optimization strategies to measure and adapt cell behaviour. As such, a pre-requisite is advanced competence in computer programming and knowledge of machine learning algorithms and information theory is essential. Working at the interface of computer science and cell biology furthermore requires excellent communication skills to bridge the disciplines along with a deep enthusiasm to learn biology. A BSc in computing, physics, mathematics or a related physical sciences subject is required.

They will also join the Health Hub at Kings Informatics department, with the opportunity to interact with a wealth of researchers utilising and developing computational approaches across biology and other domains.
This post will be offered on a fixed-term contract for 1 year.
This is a full time post - 100% full time equivalent.
The selection process will include a short presentation and interview.
Grade and Salary : Grade 5, £31,883 to £36,422 per annum, inclusive of £3,223 per annum London Allowance.
