General summary/purpose:

We are looking for a motivated senior research assistant to conduct data analyses and write scientific manuscripts describing the results of those analyses, for two projects related to the transmission of tuberculosis (TB): an analysis of interventions to halt TB transmission in four US states (California, Texas, New York, and Florida) and a randomized trial of TB case-finding interventions in South Africa. The applicant will collaborate with other members of our TB epidemiology team to perform statistical analyses, present results in written and oral formats, and discuss results with other stakeholders and decision- makers. Experience in TB epidemiology, statistical analysis, and English-language writing are required.

Specific Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Perform statistical analyses of data on TB transmission
  • Write manuscripts describing the results of these analyses and prepare those manuscripts for publication in the scientific literature
  • Develop PowerPoint presentations for delivery to stakeholders and other decision-makers
  • Collaborate with other members of the team to develop reports (for example, NIH progress reports) and web tools

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline. MPH or MS in relevant field preferred. 
  • Three years of related experience.
  • Additional graduate level education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
  • JHU Equivalency Formula:  30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.  Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis.  For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Preferred qualifications:

Master’s degree plus two years of experience in public health and/or disciplines with a heavy component of writing.

Special knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Experience with the epidemiology of tuberculosis; strong writing ability; experience with R, Stata, or other statistical package; Bachelor’s or Master’s in a quantitative discipline
  • Occasional communication with transatlantic collaborators will be required, which will necessitate occasional meetings outside of business hours.
  • Travel may be considered but is not a requirement of the position.

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
