About the position

The Department of Industrial Economics and Technology Management (IØT) is looking for a Postdoctoral Fellow for research projects within the areas of Innovation Ecosystems and Green Public Procurement, to be hired for a period of 3 years.

The department is organized into 6 sections:

  • Managerial Economics, Finance and Operations Research
  • Health, Safety and Environment Management
  • Strategy and Business Development
  • Operations Management
  • Experts in Teamwork
  • Section of Economics and management (NTNU Gjøvik)

The position as a Postdoctoral Fellow is a temporary position with the primary goal of qualifying for work in professional academic positions or in positions in business and industry, which require a high level of research based competence. The position period is three years, starting as soon as possible in the spring 2019. The position will be a part of the Strategy and Business Development section at IØT.

The Postdoctoral Fellow will be supervised by Professor Elsebeth Holmen and Professor Luitzen de Boer, and will form part of the team of researchers working on collaborative innovation, public procurement and business development in ecosystems.

Job description

The Postdoctoral Fellow will primarily work on research carried out as part of the ZEN research centre at NTNU and SINTEF, see https://fmezen.no/. The Research Centre on Zero Energy Neighbourhoods in Smart Cities (ZEN Centre) is a Centre for Environment-friendly Energy Research (FME) funded by the Research Council of Norway and the consortium partners. The main objective of the ZEN Centre is to develop knowledge, competitive products and solutions that will lead to realization of sustainable neighbourhoods that have zero emissions of greenhouse gases related to their production, operation and transformation. The research in ZEN is carried out in six work packages (WPs):

  • WP1 Analytical framework for design and planning of zero emission neighbourhoods
  • WP2 Policy measures, innovation and business models
  • WP3 Responsive and energy efficient buildings
  • WP4 Energy flexible neighbourhoods
  • WP5 Local energy system optimization within a larger system
  • WP6 Pilot projects and living labs.

The centre is a follow-up of the Research Centre on Zero Emission Buildings, www.zeb.no. The Research Centre is organized as a joint NTNU/SINTEF unit, hosted by the Faculty of Architecture and Design, NTNU. The Centre encompasses the value chain of market and public players needed in order to realize zero emission neighbourhoods, including municipalities, governmental organizations, Norwegian construction business and energy companies.

Obligations

The Postdoctoral Fellow will be part of the research team in WP2, and shall in particular develop and carry out research related to task 2.3 addressing the innovation ecosystem for ZENs. However, the Postdoctoral Fellow will also work across the three tasks in WP2 and apply an innovation ecosystem perspective on research on transition strategies and public private collaboration. In addition to research at the ZEN centre, the Postdoctoral Fellow will also work on and develop other related research projects at IØT, in particular related to dialogue based Green Public Procurement.

Qualification requirements

The requirement for the position is a completed Norwegian PhD degree in a relevant field, a completed foreign PhD approved as equivalent to a Norwegian PhD in a relevant field, or competence to an equivalent level documented with scientific work of the same amount and quality.

Much of the data collection will be made in Norwegian companies, and proficiency in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language is an advantage.

Fluent English skills, both in speaking and writing, are required.

We are looking for a research active candidate who has research experience with qualitative studies secondarily with quantitative studies. Applicants must have published their research in recognized international journals within the field. Scientific work in the past three years with relevance for the topic of the position will be given most weight.

It will also count positively if the candidate:

  • can document experience with engaging companies and organizations in his/her research, and creating an impact on business and community life
  • has created an own research agenda and an academic network
  • can show a high level of engagement in pursuing the research theme in low emission contexts

Some travelling is required to fill the position.

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants and national guidelines for appointment as PhD, postdoctor and research assistant.

Employment will be activated in accordance to existing regulations of 31.01.2006 with NTNUs supplementary purviews of 17.06.2009.

Salary and conditions

Postdoctoral candidates are remunerated in code 1352, and are normally remunerated at gross from NOK 515 200 before tax per year. From the salary, 2 % is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

Appointment takes place on the terms that apply to State employees at any time, and after the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.
