Applications are invited for the post of Post-Doctoral Research Assistant in the London Low Temperature Laboratory. This is a post to work on the project “Topological mesoscopic superfluidity of 3He”, funded by the EPSRC, grant EP/R04533/1. The project benefits from close international collaborations with researchers at Cornell University, NIST, PTB (Berlin), Northwestern University, Montana State University, University of Oxford, Kyoto University, University of Jyvaskyla, Oxford Instruments, York Instruments. The London Low Temperature Laboratory, at Royal Holloway is part of the European Microkelvin Platform, a European Advanced Infrastructure supported by Horizon 2020.

The project is expected to lead to fundamental insights into topological quantum matter, in particular topological superfluidity/superconductivity. It will drive the innovation of instrumentation at the new frontier combining ultra-low temperatures and nanoscience, and develop experimental techniques of broad applicability.

The holder of this post will be expected to help produce independent and original research within the London Low Temperature Laboratory at Royal Holloway, to submit publications to refereed journals, and to work together with and supervise postgraduate and MSci students. In addition it is a requirement to have the ability to travel to collaborator nanofabrication facilities as necessary.

The successful applicant will have a PhD in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics or a closely related area, as well as prior experience relevant to one or more of the following: (i) nanofabrication/cleanroom experience; (ii) operating cryogenic systems at low temperatures; (iii) development of low temperature measurement techniques.

This is a full time post, available from 1 May, 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter for a fixed term period of 36 months at Royal Holloway, University of London. This post is based in Egham, Surrey where Royal Holloway, University of London is situated in a beautiful, leafy campus near to Windsor Great Park and within commuting distance from London.
