The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Nazarbayev University invites applications for a position of Assistant Professor in Sociology, to begin in January 2020. We are looking for candidates who apply quantitative and statistical methods in their research within any area of specialization; candidates with expertise in demography, social stratification, and/or media are particularly welcome to apply.

Essential Qualifications

  • a PhD in Sociology from an accredited and recognized international university (ABD at time of application will be considered, but PhD must be in hand at time of appointment, and current PhD holders will be given priority);
  • Teaching experience at university level;
  • An active research agenda (as evidenced by prior peer-reviewed publications or demonstrated ability to publish immediately upon appointment);
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach introductory courses as well as upper level courses in Sociology at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Responsibilities include a 2/2 teaching load, research, and departmental and School service. The University offers opportunities for research support. This is a three-year appointment with the possibility of renewal.
