The Opportunity

The Peter Underwood Centre is a partnership between the University of Tasmania and the Tasmanian Government in association with the Office of the Governor of Tasmania. Pursuing a mutual goal to set high aspirations for the educational outcomes of Tasmanians, the Centre was conceived to lead a process of positive and sustained transformation in Tasmanian education to benefit the whole community. The Centre works to develop and draw together expertise that informs educators, government, industry and community.

Key Accountabilities

  • Assist with the day-to-day management of projects, and provide support to the Deputy Director Research as required.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with project stakeholders and colleagues from partner organisations.
  • Prepare applications for research ethics approval, including survey design
  • Collect, collate and analyse data arising from surveys and interviews, as well as data provided by external research partner organisations, using NVIVO and Excel
  • Prepare factsheets in plain English on education topics relevant to the Underwood Centre’s mission, clearly presented and applying data visualisation where appropriate


Your Application

To be successful in the role, your application will need to demonstrate;

  • A degree qualification in a relevant area with subsequent relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of relevant experience, education and/or training.
  • A demonstrated understanding of issues related to educational attainment and engagement in education.
  • Demonstrated excellent organisation and time-management skills, together with a demonstrated ability to work with competing demands, prioritise work tasks and be flexible in responding to changing work priorities.
  • Demonstrated high level negotiation, communication and promotion skills and ability to establish effective relationships with team members and cooperative relationships a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Well-developed written skills including experience in the preparation of reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to use computer-based administrative systems, including presentation software, records management and database applications; and data analysis software such as NVIVO.
  • A current driver's licence.
  • Working with vulnerable people registration, or eligibility.


Appointment to this role will have a total remuneration package of up to $80,991 comprising base salary within the range of $66,785 to $74,335 plus 9.5% superannuation.

You will be employed on a Part-Time .9FTE , Fixed-Term basis until December 2019.
