Appointment of Head of School

The Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences at The University of Melbourne is the pre-eminent faculty of medicine, public health and health sciences in Australia, and a world leader in its class. The Faculty, renowned for global leadership in health research, policy, and practice, is Australia’s largest biomedical and health research faculty and was ranked 9th globally in 2018 by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. The Faculty’s new strategic plan, Beyond 2018 (http://mdhs.unimelb.edu.au/beyond2018) sets out the ambition to change the world of health and healthcare and ensure that the Faculty remains Australia’s leading health and biomedical faculty.

As one of 6 schools within the Faculty, the Melbourne School of Population and Global Health has expertise in many disciplines including epidemiology and biostatistics, health economics, psychology, health social sciences and humanities (sociology, anthropology, history, demography, and ethics), health promotion, and health policy. There is considerable expertise in Indigenous health, mental health, communicable and non-communicable disease prevention and control, and in global health, especially in health systems and health security in the developing world.

The School is now seeking to appoint a new Head as successor to Professor Terry Nolan AO. The successful candidate will be an inspirational leader of international standing, able to drive world-class innovative research and education and advance the multidisciplinary perspective of the School. He or she will have a track record in influencing national and international debates on health policy, developing research collaborations, and forging new partnerships with key external stakeholders.
