We are seeking an experienced Veterinary Theriogenologist for the 2019 breeding season. Responsibilities include mare care and reproductive emergencies, embryo transfer, artificial insemination with cooled and frozen semen, stallion collection, semen freezing and shipping of cooled semen. You will be supported by a team of nurses, dedicated technical staff and interns. Some out of hours work including weeknights and weekends will be required, as is the flexibility and willingness to support other areas of the practice, including primary opinion, subject to caseload requirements and workload.

The Veterinary Health Centre (VHC) is the University of Adelaide’s clinical teaching facility which operates on a commercial basis, offering a range of first opinion and specialist veterinary services across all animal species to the general public and referring veterinarians. As a unit of VHC, the Equine Health and Performance Centre (EHPC) is a state-of-the-art primary practice and referral clinic offering the latest technology, equipment and professional services to the horse-owning community. In addition, the EHPC provides a clinical training environment for final year veterinary students working under the close supervision of experienced veterinary surgeons, nurses and support staff.

The EHPC is equipped with specialised reproduction equipment and foaling bays and is staffed by experienced and qualified equine clinical academic staff, including diplomates in equine internal medicine, surgery, theriogenology, anaesthesia and  equine sports medicine. We also have an ambulatory team providing primary opinion services. Clinical services are supported by a team of dedicated and enthusiastic nursing staff who rotate through a 24/7 roster to support the clinicians.

The EHPC is situated on the University’s picturesque Roseworthy Campus, approximately 9km from the township of Gawler and on the doorstep of the world-renowned Barossa Valley wine region.

To be successful you will need:

  • A Veterinary qualification suitable for registration in Australia
  • A completed residency in veterinary reproduction / theriogenology
  • Experience in the delivery of clinical theriogenology services
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of the Equine team.
