UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL LANCASHIRE
APPOINTMENT OF VICE-CHANCELLOR
The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) prides itself on delivering education and research that transforms its students and communities. It has a total of some 38,000 students and staff globally, and an annual income over £225mn. Its commitment to widening participation is exemplified through the unusually high proportion of its students who come from low income backgrounds, and its achievement of the lowest BME attainment gap in the sector. A high proportion of its research was ranked as world leading in the 2014 REF. Its campus in Preston is currently undergoing a £200mn investment programme, and its other locations, in Burnley, Blackburn, Cumbria, Cyprus and China, are all distinctive and student-centred. The University delivers its mission with a strong commercial mindset, and is characterised by a business-like approach to partnerships and external engagement.
A new Vice-Chancellor is sought to continue the strategic progress of the university, working with a strong senior team and an engaged Board of Governors. S/he will represent the institution to its external partners and stakeholders, seeking to maximise opportunities for developing the University’s profile and activities. This is an opportunity to significantly shape and influence the University’s future.
Ideal candidates will have a successful track record of collaborative leadership in a complex organisation, and be skilled in strategy development, enterprise and organisational change. They will have a genuine commitment to engaging both internally and externally, acting as an ambassador for UCLan with an effective approach to managing and sharing accountability across a senior team. A strong resonance with the university’s ethos is key, as is the resourcefulness and drive to lead an ambitious institution.
