Job description

The School of Sport and Wellbeing, and the Institute of Coaching and Performance (ICaP), is inviting applications for the post of Senior Lecturer in Coaching and Elite Performance. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and interdisciplinary team and to contribute to the academic development, course management, teaching, research development, knowledge transfer, and scholarship within the School in the area of coaching and performance. We would welcome applicants with expertise across the spectrum in coaching and performance.

The appointee will predominantly be focused on postgraduate research programmes delivered off-campus, specifically the Professional Doctorate and Professional Masters in Elite Performance. As such, applicants will have the ability to work in collaboration with existing group members, an active and supportive approach to inter-disciplinary and applied research both internally and externally to the University, and the aptitude to engage with a range of teaching and learning strategies to support postgraduate programmes.

The successful applicant will have experience of teaching and supporting post-graduate students as well as contemporary experience of applied work in a practical coaching/performance environment. In addition to having a good honours degree and a PhD in a related area of study and having published in relevant peer-review journals, it is desirable that the successful applicant has other qualifications commensurate with the role (such as professional accreditation). It is also expected that the successful applicant will be able to demonstrate an appropriate level of research activity, grant capture and income generation commensurate to the role and a track record of producing research output to a standard that is REF returnable via collaboration within and outside the University.

Company

The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) was founded in Preston in 1828 as the Institution for the Diffusion of Knowledge.  Since those early days it has transitioned into one of the UK’s leading, modern universities with a student body comprising some 120 nations and an overall learning community approaching 38,000.

Throughout its development ‘Ex solo ad solem’, or in translation, ‘From the Earth to the Sun’, has been its motto – helping talented people from all walks of life to make the most of their potential. Staff at UCLan pride themselves on putting the needs of students at the centre of everything they do and in 2014 this shared core value was highlighted when the University achieved IIP Gold status.

In 2015 the Centre for World University Rankings placed UCLan in the top 3.8 percent of all worldwide universities and over the coming years UCLan’s £200 million Campus Masterplan development will create a truly world-class educational environment that will propel the University to new levels of excellence.
