Background

The College of Engineering operates on dual sector mode and the appointee will be responsible to the Head of School and the College Dean for the preparation of TVET and Higher Education programmes at International levels for accreditation and effective delivery to students in preparation of practitioners in telecommunication engineering. The Professor is also expected to develop and carry out relevant independent research projects to extend knowledge of an appropriate subject area and assist the Head of School and the College Dean in the delivery of the respective programmes’ academic units, research work and other related activities required by the programmes.   

An Associate Professor will be well known in their field, they will have a national profile and will likely collaborate internationally. They are likely to have chaired sessions at international conferences and be invited to give talks at academic meetings in Fiji and overseas. They will have a significant research/scholarship record, some of which will be in high profile international journals, or other appropriate outlets, in their field. The Associate Professor will show significant academic leadership. They will link their research to their teaching and develop new papers and courses inspired by their research expertise. They must have clear evidence of good teaching performance.

The Professorship is the pinnacle of an academic career. A Professor will be known internationally in their field. They will publish in high quality, peer-reviewed international journals, are likely to have edited texts or written books in their subject of study, and be on committees/editorial boards outside the University. They will show significant academic leadership by running a research programme, which will likely involve a group of researchers, and will have collaborations outside the University and probably internationally.  Professors will demonstrate evidence of leadership in curriculum/discipline development at both a national and international level, and will be good teachers with their research informing their teaching.  A Professor will be involved in senior University Service – eg, they will sit on University committees that are responsible for issues such as staff appointments. The Professor is a leader of the University and a leader in their specialist field.

 Associate Professor

Essential

  • PhD qualifications in telecommunication and network engineering
  • Significant research/scholarship record some of which should be in high profile international journals
  • Clear evidence of good teaching performance
  • Track record of success in securing research funding from external sources

Desirable

  • Capacity to co-ordinate and/or lead other staff
  • Show significant academic leadership and be involved in senior university service
  • Corporate member of a relevant and recognized engineering institution under the Washington Accord

Professor

Essential

  • PhD in the telecommunication and network engineering or relevant field
  • Outstanding record of research and high quality publications
  • Excellent record in the leadership and supervision of early and mid-career academic staff and postgraduate students
  • Proven record of excellence and leadership in teaching and learning including scholarly and innovative approaches to teaching 
  • Demonstrated ability to design, coordinate and teach a range of undergraduate/postgraduate units including large service classes and specialized classes
  • Show significant academic leadership and be involved in senior university service
  • Track record of success in securing research funding from external sources
  • Track record of quality research supervision for higher degree postgraduate students
  • Demonstrated record or potential for writing research grants and generating research income
  • Corporate member of a relevant and recognized engineering institution under the Washington Accord

Salary Associate Professor: Base salary of $94, 545.00 plus 10% superannuation
Professor: Base salary $109,716.00 plus 10% Superannuation
