Research Assistant Professor in Air Pollution and Health (Ref. 19022510)
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering enjoys a high international reputation in research on atmospheric science and human health and has well-established connections with industry partners and government agencies in Hong Kong and overseas. The Department, together with the Research Institute for Sustainable Urban Development (RISUD), which is a university-wide research institute established for developing innovative solutions for sustainable high-density cities by capitalizing on the living laboratory of Hong Kong's urban environment and the multidisciplinary expertise of PolyU, are seeking a highly motivated individual with a PhD degree with research expertise in air pollution and health. The new appointee will add to the existing research strengths in environmental science and engineering of the Department and the Institute.

Duties
The appointee will be required to:
(a) initiate, lead and participate in research activities in the area of air pollution and human health, especially the toxicity of urban PM2.5 ;
(b) teach relevant undergraduate and postgraduate subjects such as Environmental Impact Assessment, Environmental Management Systems, and Contaminated Land and Sediment etc.;
(c) supervise student projects and theses;
(d) undertake relevant administrative duties; and
(e) perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department or his/her delegates.
Qualifications
Applicants should:
(a) have a PhD degree in Environmental Science, with a first degree in Biology or Chemistry;
(b) have a strong record of research and scholarship in the area of air pollution and human health, including various toxicity assessments (in vetro and in vivo methods);
(c) be able to conduct effective classroom teaching; and
(d) have demonstrated excellent potential for developing a successful academic career.
Remuneration and Conditions of Service
The remuneration package for the Research Assistant Professor post is the same as an Assistant Professor post. A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract for one year. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
