Research Technician, Biochemistry
We are seeking to immediately hire a Research Technician I to become an integral part of our team! You will assist the principle investigator in planning and executing a variety of biochemical experiments aimed at understanding the role that staphylococcal protein A (SpA) plays in the pathogenesis of S. aureus. Perform a variety of technical duties involved in conducting standardized tests, experiments and determinations in support of research oriented activities at Duke University.
The work being performed by individuals assigned to this classification include preparation of culture media, chemicals, reagents and solutions. Maintain sufficient inventory of materials, supplies and equipment. Operate various electronic devices in the collection and tabulation of data Set up instruments, material and operate standard lab research equipment.
- Express and purify key proteins
- Use the tools of molecular biology to construct variant genes and move them into E. coli & S. aureus
- Organize lab stocks and order supplies
- Serve as Lab Safety Officer
- Train undergraduate and graduate students
- Develop and execute bioassays
- Participate in group meetings and manuscript preparation
- Previous experience in molecular biology and bacteriology
- Experience with protein purification and characterization
- Familiar with fundamental research practices, including diligent record keeping
- Deadline and detail-oriented
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
