Job Description

The laboratory of Dr. Romain Cartoni in the Department of Pharmacology and Cancer Biology at Duke University School of Medicine, Albert Eye Research Institute is opening a position of Research Technician I to work in the field of axonal regeneration and neuronal repair. We are looking for a highly motivated and talented candidate experienced in mouse colony management (breeding, genotyping, colony organization) and basic molecular biology techniques (PCR, immunostaining…etc). Experience in eye surgeries such as intravitreal injection and optic nerve crush is considered as a
plus.

Our research focuses on finding mechanisms and regulators to promote neuronal repair by modulating mitochondrial function and dynamics. Our effort is targeted to the blinding diseases affecting the retinal ganglion cells axons and how we can help make the optic nerve regenerate. Our lab utilizes a wide range of techniques such as high-end microscopy (live imaging, electron microscopy, tissue clearing, 3D reconstructions), in vitro cellular culture models (cortical neurons culture, retina explant, microfluidic chambers), in vivo mouse models of neurodegeneration and regeneration (optic nerve crush) as well as classic cell and molecular biology techniques.
