The School of Arts, Languages and Cultures at the University of Manchester invites applications for a Lecturer in Playwriting, tenable from 1 May 2019 for a period of three and a half years. The successful candidate will be a playwright with a track record of produced and published work of international significance, a proven ability as an excellent teacher, and potential to contribute to the research profile of the School. You will play a leading role in the development and delivery of an ambitious new MA in Playwriting (launched September 2019), working alongside a team of successful theatre practitioners and researchers, creative writers and screenwriters based in the Centre for New Writing and Drama Department. The successful candidate will teach and assess postgraduate courses in playwriting, and contribute to undergraduate courses in related areas in the Drama and English Departments, as necessary. You will contribute fully to the Centre for New Writing and Drama Department’s other activities, including public events series, outreach work with schools, collaborations with external cultural institutions, and/or the organisation of industry seminars with visiting writers and professionals from the theatre industry.

Applications from playwrights with specialisms in any area of playwriting are welcome, and preference will be given to applicants with a good track record of work in industry as well as academic contexts.
