The Bristol Cyber Security Group, led by Professor Awais Rashid, is seeking to appoint a post-doctoral researcher in large-scale data mining of adversarial actors and their behaviours. The group forms part of the Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Research (ACE-CSR) at Bristol.

You will join a key project studying the identifying characteristics of cybercriminals, the impact of historic events on cybercriminal communities, and career paths through cybercrime. You will develop innovative research which places you at the forefront of large-scale understanding of cybercriminals, developing novel attribute inference and identification techniques for use in online data. You will carry novel research techniques from initial conception to practical implementation, leading to novel tools and techniques in the understanding and prevention/disruption of cybercrime. The position offers an exciting opportunity to develop novel data mining and machine learning techniques for application in a challenging and impactful domain. You will have significant freedom to direct analyses of behavioural and textual data relating to cybercriminals, and work alongside a multidisciplinary team which can support quantitative insights with practical, psychological and linguistic expertise. You will also work in collaboration with a critical mass of researchers within the Bristol Cyber Security Group and the wider Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Research.

The Group participates in several major initiatives, including leading projects as part of the Research Institute on Science of Cyber Security (RISCS) and the Research Institute on Trustworthy, Interconnected, Cyber-Physical Systems (RITICS), leading the programme of work on developing a Cyber Security Body of Knowledge (CyBOK). There is a strong expectation that you will actively contribute to the strong profile of Cyber Security at Bristol and its inter-disciplinary ethos through participation in the development and publication of research results.
