The Department of Engineering Mathematics at the University of Bristol, part of the School of Computer Science, Electrical & Electronic Engineering and Engineering Mathematics (SCEEM), is seeking to appoint a Head of Department on professorial pay scale. A candidate is sought with strong leadership potential and an excellent track record of interdisciplinary research and teaching that is consistent with the aims and ethos of the department. Engineering Mathematics has a unique brand to offer its students, and it prides itself on offering students a tool kit with which to solve real-world problems. Ability to provide inspirational mentorship to a diverse body of academic staff will be a key requirement of the job, as will demonstrating the ability to foster partnership with industry and applied researchers from other disciplines.

The successful candidate will also serve as part of the SCEEM Senior Management Team with additional cross-cutting responsibilities, as well as to ensure Engineering Mathematics maximises its potential. SCEEM recently launched a new vision and strategy to fulfil its potential as a principal area for growth in the University, and a major contributor to the new Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus.

The post is offered on an ongoing, full-time basis, but we welcome candidates interested in a fractional or part-time appointment. We especially encourage applicants who are female or from other under-represented groups. The role of Head of Department will be for four years duration. After that, the post will revert to a regular professorial post.

We appreciate and value difference, seeking to attract, develop and retain a diverse mix of talented people that will contribute to the overall success of Bristol and help maintain our position as one of the world’s leading universities.
