Postdoctoral Research Associate

Department : Cardiovascular Sciences

The post holder will report to Professor Catherine Shanahan and will perform research investigating the epigenetic regulation of vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) calcification and ageing. We have shown that the accumulation of the toxic nuclear protein prelamin A is a hallmark of VSMC ageing that can accelerate cellular senescence.

The project will examine the interplay between the nuclear lamina, the DNA damage response and epigenetic regulation of ageing and calcification an age-associated pathology. The candidate should have experience in cell and molecular biology including epigenetics, data analysis and microscopy. Experience in vascular biology is desirable. The successful candidate will join a research group within the BHF Centre of Research Excellence which provides an excellent highly multidisciplinary environment with state-of-the-art equipment and facilities.

Candidates should have, or be about to obtain a PhD in Biological sciences or a related discipline.

This post will be offered on a fixed-term contract for 3 years.

This is a full-time post - 100% full time equivalent

Grade and Salary : The salary will be paid at Grade 6, £37,412 to £42,832 per annum, inclusive of £3,223 per annum London Allowance.
