The online application form requires students to upload a single PDF file with their CV, transcript, and teaching evaluation scores. (The role of teaching evaluations in the selection process is to provide some evidence of past performance as a GSI.) External applicants will also be required to enter contact information for a reference.

Responsibilities*

Attendance at all course lectures.  Lead two or three discussion sections.  Attend and be prepared for weekly planning meetings with Instructor (complete the readings and have plans/ideas on how to run discussion sections).  Grade all assignments/exams? provide feedback to students.  Post office hours and hold at least two hours of office hours each week.  Maintain attendance records.

Required Qualifications*

Currently enrolled as a graduate student in good standing at the University of Michigan, have a GPA of 3.0, not have exceeded LSA's Ten Term Rule. Completed one year of graduate study in Anthropology or courses in closely related field at the University of Michigan. In addition to the general Rackham rules, must have no more than one Incomplete on record.  Speak English or meet the minimum threshold for the Oral English Test at the University of Michigan.

Decision Making Process

Faculty preference, applicant preference, relevant academic preparation for teaching course material, relevance to graduate training and previous teaching experience will all be considered when selecting GSIs for courses.

Selection Process

Preference will be given to Anthropology graduate students to whom funding commitments are owed, followed by other Anthropology graduate students and then students from outside the department who are qualified.
