Department of Psychology, Social Work & Counselling

Location:      Greenwich
Salary:      £33,199 to £38,460 plus £3640 London weighting
Contract Type:      Fixed Term
Closing Date:      Tuesday 19 March 2019
Interview Date:      To be confirmed

The Department of Psychology, Social Work and Counselling has recently re-located in the fantastic and newly refurbished Dreadnought building on the World Heritage site at the Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich. This move, along with the creation of new lab facilities, is part of significant investment in the Department and part of a long-term plan to build internationally leading research and teaching in the Faculty. As part of this investment we are looking to appoint five “rising star” lecturers in Psychology to help grow and develop the Department.

You will be joining a Department and Faculty that is building a strong interdisciplinary and cross-professional approach to solving the grand challenges facing society. We are looking for colleagues who will have a commitment to maintaining and building the University’s excellence in teaching and learning, and who are doing research that has the potential for significant long-term academic and societal impact.

We welcome applications from individuals with an interest in any area of Psychology, but would particularly encourage applications from those with an interest in areas of Cognition, Neuroscience, Developmental and/or Social Psychology. As a Faculty we also welcome candidates whose research work will resonate with two new interdisciplinary Faculty themes of ‘Vulnerable children, young people and families’ and/or ‘Marginalised, stigmatised and victimised groups”.

The Department has an active and growing research base. Psychology performed well in REF2014. Our current performance and continued investment in the discipline will lead to even better performance in REF2021 and beyond. The University is currently rated TEF silver, reflecting our excellent teaching and learning, and we have realistic aspirations to achieve a TEF rating of ‘gold’ in the forthcoming subject TEF.

We are looking to to recruit individuals with a strong and developing track record of research who, at the same time, are able to demonstrate commitment to teaching excellence and innovation. Candidates would be expected to have a PhD and a developing profile of international-quality publications, together with appropriate experience of teaching in the HE sector for this level.

Informal enquiries can be made to Dr Russell Luyt (Head of Department); email: r.luyt@gre.ac.uk and telephone: 020 8331 8867

We are looking for people who can help us deliver our mission of transforming lives through inspired teaching and research, through our values.
