Occupational Summary

Perform a variety of complex technical duties involved in conducting laboratory tests, experiments and determinations in support of Duke University research operations. We seek a research technician II with experience in quantitative image analysis, including the use of Imaris and/or MatLab to extract information from confocal or light sheet microscopy images.

Work Performed

Confer with post-doctoral fellow or principal investigator to review work assignments and develop plans for research experiments. Work with post-doctoral fellow to image samples using confocal and light sheet microscopy. Compile, analyze, document and draw tentative conclusions from experimental results. Make minor modifications to existing laboratory procedures and techniques to meet the needs of the particular analysis as required. Review methods, scientific journals, abstracts and other literature for information that might provide solutions to imaging or image analysis problems. Determine and set up computational tools required for specific tests. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein. Required Qualifications at this Level Education/Training: Work requires a bachelor's degree in mathematics, computational biology, botany, biology, zoology or other science related scientific field.

Preferred Skills/Experience

Experience:

Candidates with a computational background and/or experience in writing code to analyze features and morphology from microscopy images will be prioritized. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Skills:

Ability to work with Imaris, MatLab, or similar image analysis program.
