Applications are invited for a joint appointment as Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Global Interdisciplinary Design Thinking in the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Architecture (Ref.: 494020), to commence on August 15, 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and with consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract. The appointee’s tenure home would be in the Faculty of Education.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Curriculum Development and Design Thinking (DT), Design Thinking and Education, Design Thinking, Design Innovation, Design Methods, or a closely related field. They should have demonstrated experience in curriculum and programme design, data science tools and methodologies, a strong commitment in addressing interdisciplinary DT-related questions, as well as interest in developing disciplinary-crossing, integrated and inventive thinking programmes for students across the campus.

The appointee will support the new suite of Bachelor of Arts and Sciences (BASc) programmes (https://aal.hku.hk/admissions/local/admissions-information?page=en/faculty/basc-programmes), particularly in Social Data Science, Design+, Applied Artificial Intelligence, and Global Health and Development. He/She will be expected to (i) offer courses on Design Thinking, Social Data Science, and interdisciplinary innovation for the new BASc programmes and develop new interdisciplinary Common Core Courses at undergraduate level; (ii) contribute to interdisciplinary/cross-Faculty research in Design Thinking; (iii) develop an e-learning infrastructure and pedagogical designs so that students in different programmes can have the opportunities to master DT methods for creative problem-solving; (iv) supervise research postgraduate students; (v) engage in knowledge exchange initiatives involving DT; and (vi) take up administrative duties as required. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
