The Divinity School invites applications from current and recent doctoral students in the school for a competitive two-year program designed to enhance pedagogical skills and extend research training. Candidates should have demonstrated excellence in their original scholarship, as well as in teaching. Successful candidates will be appointed as part-time Lecturers to teach four courses per year at the undergraduate level (a combination of general education "Core" courses and teaching within disciplinary majors that will make a significant contribution to the undergraduate curriculum in their field of study) with a starting salary of $45,500. Fellows must also participate in a structured program of professional development under the joint supervision of the Chicago Center for Teaching (CCT) and their faculty mentor in the Divinity School. Each Fellow will be provided with work space, library privileges, and access to placement services. Fellows must be in-residence on campus during the three quarters of the academic year. Teaching Fellows positions are part- time in order to allow Fellows time outside of work to pursue research and opportunities for career advancement. The terms and conditions of employment for this position are covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and the University.

Program Eligibility: In order to be eligible for the Divinity School Teaching Fellows program applicants must:

1. have received or be on track to complete and receive the PhD within 8 years of matriculation into the Divinity School's PhD program, as confirmed by the Dean of Students;
2. have matriculated no earlier than Summer 2011 and have completed all requirements for the PhD before the start of Autumn Quarter 2019, but not before Spring Quarter 2018;
3. identify a faculty sponsor who will commit to participate fully as a mentor during the program.

2. statement of teaching philosophy, and a proposed teaching plan, including a description of the Core sequences and RLST classes in which the Fellow would like to teach (for Core course descriptions consult: http://collegecatalog.uchicago.edu/thecollege/religiousstudies/). The applicant's proposal should clearly demonstrate how the proposed courses will resource the overall Religious Studies offerings. To that end, all applicants should meet with Professor Ryan Coyne, Director of Undergraduate Studies, before submitting their application, to discuss their proposal;

4. current UChicago transcript (unofficial transcript acceptable);
5. reference letter from the proposed Faculty Mentor (submitted directly to ACO; you will provide contact information when you apply), providing 1) assessment of the applicant's teaching and scholarship, including the role this fellowship will play in supporting the applicant's qualifications for the job market; 2) affirmation of the Faculty member's commitment to mentoring the fellow in his or her teaching in the major and/or in the Core.
